THE DIARY OF ANNE FRANK CAST ANNOUNCED
SENECA FALLS, NY, August 31, 2017 ———— Seneca Community Players announced today that they have cast their upcoming production of Albert Hackett and Frances Goodrich’s The Diary of Anne Frank.
The Diary of Anne Frank won both the Pulitzer Prize and New York Drama Critics Award for Best Play, in 1956. This touching, tender, heart wrenching yet at times funny story centers on the diary of a young Jewish girl (Anne Frank), her family, the van Daan family and dentist Dr. Albert Dussel who go into hiding in 1942 Amsterdam. The play directed by TANYS – Theatre Association of NY award winning director Eric Jansen, chronicles their lives through the writings in Anne’s diary during their 25 months in hiding in order to avoid deportation to the extermination camps by the Nazis.
The part of Anne Frank will be portrayed by Union Springs High School sophomore Emma DeGroff of Auburn, seen previously at the Merry-Go-Round Playhouse. Otto Frank (Anne’s father) will be played by SCP veteran and TANYS award winning actor Steve Mitchell of Geneva. Susie Cornett previously from the Chicago area but now a resident of Seneca Falls is returning to the stage after a 10 year hiatus as Edith Frank, Anne’s mother. Also new to SCP and completing the Frank Family is Mynderse Academy Junior, Madison Yearsley. Previously from West Hartford CT but now living in Seneca Falls, she will be portraying Anne’s sister Margot.
Additional cast members include Geneva native and Geneva Theatre Guild veteran Dan Chacchia playing Hermann van Daan, who’s family joins the Franks in the annex. TANYS award winner Wendy Varrichio-Fletcher of Seneca Falls will play Hermann’s wife Petronella van Daan and Juan Espana of Penn Yan completes the van Daan family as their son Peter van Daan.
Brittany Hammond, of Clifton Springs, will plays Miep Gies, Mr. Frank’s former secretary. Zachary Cornett of Seneca Falls, who was recently seen in The Addams Family Musical where he won a TANYS award, will play Mr. Kraler, Frank’s former business partner. SCP veteran and TANYS winning actor John King of Waterloo has been cast as Dr. Dussel, and Tim Hoster of Seneca Falls rounds out the cast as Nazi Officer Karl Silberbauer.
This iconic play will be presented on the lower level of the Partridge Building, 115 Fall Street, Seneca Falls, on October 6, 7, 13 and 14 at 8pm and October 8 at 2pm.
